I want to make a message board. I have like .1 web dev experience. Can someone give me a list of books to read so I can do it on my own? I want to be at the point where I can maintain the site myself so I need everything I need to know. It doesn't have to be an image board.

Literally just jump in, start with the simplest stack possible (JavaScript frontend, PHP backend) and start coding. As your app scales you will naturally look for ways to manage complexity. If you can't learn vanilla JavaScript, HTML and PHP, then you have no business being in CS.

college won't teach you that. you'll still have to bring yourself up to speed. college is just a surgical cross section of ways of approaching problems to get you to be able to read a site like that in your spare time

Ironically I use chatbots for resource recommendations more than anything. They're actually pretty good at it.
