Grew up with family who could never get rid of anything. My house has always been boxes and bins full of stuff with clutter and trash on top of it all.
I'm just starting my adult life and after years of not being allowed to let friends even see past my front door I want to change something. I'm living with my mom and every time I try to toss all the clutter or trash no matter how many hours I spend the pile is completely replenished in less than a week. "You're supposed to clean every day" I know that, but I still really struggle with keeping up with it since I was never taught how. To make matters worse I'm supposed to handle all of the cleaning duties around the house since my mom is constantly working and basically never home. As soon as she gets home she adds to the clutter and immediately goes to sleep, which I don't blame her for, she's really tired. But it's still annoying that I put so much effort into streamlining the process of putting stuff in the trash or recycling and she just ignores it out of instinct to toss her stuff wherever.
Anons with hoarder experience, I implore you. How do I get through this without following in my family's footsteps or becoming a no possessions Buddhist monk? Any advice appreciated

1. Never buy anything unless you're going to use it immediately
2. Never put anything down "just for now." Everything goes in its proper place every time.
3. Never keep anything "just in case you might someday need it"
