none of that really matters, though. do you like her enough as a person to genuinely be willing to work through that whole situation? like why it is she'd rather cheat on you than just talk about being lonely or try to solve that problem? if she made her case fully, if you learned everything that went into it (and it could range from being young, dumb and impulsive to acting out patterns as a result of childhood trauma)? "i was just lonely" sounds far more like a rationalization than an explanation, probably she didn't have the capacity to either talk about her feelings, or to assert her needs better ("the distance isn't working for me, we should try and find some way to visit"). this is the reality of these kinds of situations, it's unlikely she's just using you or stringing you along or w/e (even though that's usually the stereotypical scenario).

the above is good advice if you're married, but the reality is that you are only 18 (and i would imagine she is close to you in age), clearly talented enough to get an overseas gig, and you certainly have the capacity to dump her and find someone else. so really what this comes down to, imo, is whether or not you think it'd be worthwhile to solve these things. if you do work through them, you'll probably be a lot closer afterwards and your relationship will enter a better era, but there is a very real possibility that here ISN'T a good reason for this, or that she doesn't have the capacity to change right now, or whatever. in other words, it would be a LOT of emotional commitment for 18, and that wouldn't be a bad thing but you're young enough to probably easily find someone better for you.
