it's a dumb exam. he gives us all the formulas and we gotta do the calculations. it's like 20 operations in a row with the calculator and if you fuck up something and don't get the same result as him, he marks everything wrong, and all the following calculations are marked wrong as well, because if you fail the first steps, none of the following numbers give you the same as his answer.

That sounds totally reasonable. You are not taking the course to get the answers to some specific problems, but to learn how to do the process. Demonstrating on the exam that you can't do the process is legitimate reason to fail.
