My friend says I should give up working retail ($17) to rent a car and do DoorDash and Grubhub. I don't have a car of my own because I cant afford it. Is this retarded or does it make sense?

Basically to make more money. My friend wants me to move in with him. And I am tired of riding the bus in 115 degree heat and want a car.

How the fuck are you going to pay rent AND a car loan on grubhub?

UberEats has a larger marketshare than Grubhub. DoorDash is where you want to go, but in a lot of metro areas they have waiting lists to get on. Renting a car to do that is fucking retarded, though.

You would only average $23 an hour doing that, but the difference in expenses needed for renting a car and paying insurance would put you back at $17/hr.
You would have to work more hours per week to come out ahead.

not him but without a degree what's another avenue for getting out of the $20/hr zone? all my more successful friends have money from working jobs with insane hours which seems pointless to me if you can't enjoy life

Become a Jannie, that's what I did. I make 48k a year and I'm usually done by 6:30 or even a quarter to 6 if I cheat and work on my lunch break, then I just shitpost on my laptop until 8. I also have about an hour a day from 1:30 to 2:30 where I'm just sitting in my closet if nothing major is happening. It's a comfy job if you're efficient.
