>online friends
There is no such thing. That is why I won't read such threads, that I call app-addled threads. Belief in online friends is delusional and akin to the "imaginary friends" that children might have. But when people grow up they leave childish things behind.

you basically have to lurk in one place everyday and fish for another regular and then slowly do stuff outside of the place you lurk together til you form a bond about just you guys hanging out that isn't local to just one thing

look for places that discuss your interests. Just to make it clear, hating on le normies and npcs isn't an interest. 4shit is rather bad for making friends, as everyone is jaded or mentally ill in a way and pulls you down. At least all the boards with some sort of socializing, it's maybe less bad on /k/ or whatever boards. In the past there used to be forums, and all forums had off-topic where there was always more connection with each others. Nowadays with reddit it feel way more hard, despite everyone is connected.

If you hang around in a place like discord for long enough (presumably in a discord you like, shouldn't be hard if you are the sort of person that posts that anime picture and presumably self-diagnoses as mentally ill) you can make at least acquaintances. I haven't bothered with it in years and don't like talking into a mic when I do, so my experience with it is limited.

These online acquaintances can be a replacement for friends for some, but they may or may not satisfy your psychological wants, needs, and other social interests. For many, being alone is better long-term.

Its like a more engaging version of being a prison pen-pal. Sure, anyone can do it, but milage varies.
