Are some people's noses just extremely sensitive? Or am I just fucked up in the nose?

The other day I walked into a bathroom after the janitor had just finished mopping it. I thought it smelled okay. A bit lemoney. And after 10 seconds, I couldn't smell anything at all.

And then a couple seconds later some guy walks in and immediately comments on how it really stinks. Saying the janitor must be using an old ass mop. He acted like there was a dead body in there.

I don't understand. Is my nose fucked up or is his? How is it I can't smell the same bad smell he's smelling?

What's happening here?

It has to do with the number of olfactory cells in your nose rather than the size of the fleshy external part of the nose. Otherwise the filthy inhabitants of the shtetl wouldn't have been able to stand their own stench and need to be shorn, showered and deloused when they were brought into the internment camps.
