Realistically speaking, what sort of income should one have if they wish to have a family with a SAHM in 2025 without living from paycheck to paycheck? I mean actually enjoying life and all the little things we take granted (eating out once a week, holidays once a year, a mortgage etc) but not living too extravagantly.

And how would one go about trying to hit that income in a world where jobs are scarce and perpetually under the threat of being outsourced/AI and social fluidity seems harder than ever?

Not the US fyi, I'm asking for an Australia specific answer.

>If you want to comfortably support a SAHM lifestyle without feeling financially strained, and you're in a major city like Sydney or Melbourne, you’re realistically looking at an income closer to $120,000 - $150,000 per year. In more affordable regions, you might get by with $90,000 - $110,000.

How the fuck do I hit this?

just have 1-2 kids with big age gaps. Limit holidays to 1 a year and no extra expenses. It’s possible but you have to sacrifice a lot.

I don't know a single person hitting that income that isn't a doctor/dentist or whatever. Even in the trades you need to go to the mines to get that kind of cash.

exactly which is why you will have to sacrifice a lot if you want to support a SAHM lifestyle. Ofc you can make it work without thought if you earn high salary. If you don’t then you will sacrifice a lot of comfort and luxuries. OR dont support a SAHM lifestyle. You both work and you both contribute to household tasks. Equal partnership. Live comfortably. More money.

To misquote Charles Dickens (because British currency has changed):

Annual income $50,000 - annual expenditure $49,999. Result Happiness
Annual income $50000 - annual expenditure $50,001. Result Misery

It doesn't matter how much you make, as long as you spend less.

Ideally I would like to give a partner the choice to work or not to work, my mum tried being a sahm too but it wasn't financially viable. I grew up in a loving home regardless.

I like this, but at least while you're young, money is happiness. You can't do shit anymore if you don't have some level of disposable income.

Yeah. Seems about right. I'm in this range around the middle. It's going well. We have a kid and a mortgage and my wife stays home. We could spend more but we don't. I like saving.

How long is a piece of string? I have no idea what NPCs are earning these days in throw another tinny on the barby on the long weekend shithole on your quarter acre block (do they even have quarter acre blocks any more) watching the footy on the telly in LesPatterson-ville Anus Mundi down under.

You just need to go from hammer and nail to drill and screws. Meaning, learn how to program with AI and use it as a tool. If you look at movies like Blade Runner 2049, being in technology is never going to go old. It just means you gotta adapt your tools like construction.

Yes you fucking can. It just is what you code with is AI not basic anymore. Now instead of having a guy lift things up with a ladder you use a forklift and that forklift is AI. (For the love of God please tell me you aren't confused by my metaphors).

I get it. It’s basically that you’re not irrelevant anymore because you get paid to carry shit around and now somebody invented the forklift, I can learn to use the forklift too.

I work in cyber security and I earn this amount. But the industry is getting flooded with pajeets and Arabs so you won't be able to get a job in this industry now.
