I'm a 22 yo jobless loser that still lives with his dad. My dad won't let me drive his truck because he's paranoid about me crashing. Nobody in my shithole town is hiring and there's nothing to do here so I'm unlikely to get the money to buy my own car. What do I do? I can't keep being a lonely neet.

How big is your town?
Have you considered joining the military?

Grab all you've got and literally walk to some other place. Look at it as an adventure. Start your life.

He's been "teaching" me for 2 years at this point. He's more of a distraction than anything because he'll do shit like yell at me to slow down when there's a stoplight and I'm not anywhere close to the car in front of me. I need to get used to driving on my own if I'm gonna get better.

Can you mow lawns for neighbors? Its a start. Drag a wagon around with lawn tools and mow lawns for 20-100 bucks a each. Long term though I would figure out how to move to a town with opportunities or join the military. Military has all kinds of down sides but its an option.

If you can save up enough to get a shitty apartment in a bigger city you could work at mcdonalds or whatever. Does your town have any kind of trade school? Is your dad aware of your situation and willing to do anything to help? Can you sell drugs? Growing magic mushrooms is pretty easy.

You don't need a car. It's not some magic wand that you wave to get a job and it's not the reason you don't have a job. Use other modes of transport and consider moving to a place that is walkable and bikeable and has easy transit.

There are two possibilities here.

The first is that you are a terrible driver and you are doing things that are truly dangerous. In that case, your father is justified on yelling at you and I don’t blame him for not wanting you to wreck his vehicle.

The second possibility is that he’s just really tough on you. But then again, if you can’t swallow your pride and just do what he says so that he will let you drive his truck, then you probably won’t last in any job. Your employer is less willing to put up with your attitude than your parents. But instead of yelling at you, they will just replace you.

My suggestion is to just do whatever it takes to get access to a vehicle as soon as possible so you can get a job. Don’t focus on who’s to blame. Just do what your father says. When you get money and your own vehicle, then you can drive however you want.
