At dinner tonight they were guilt tripping me for having to live with them rather than going out into the world and stuff, and were begging me to put the phone away at dinner, clean the toilet every week etc.

I reminded them I was a legal adult and I wasn't willingly living with them anymore. They kept pushing back, defensively justifying their control of me. Rn they even have access to my wardrobe and hairstyle preferences, which is why I haven't started any sort of HRT, and don't even visually pass or socially transition.

Realizing this, I asked them a hypothetical: "mom what if I dyed my hair red? I don't want to, but WHAT IF?"

Mom retorted that if I did, she wouldn't stop me if I paid for it myself, but she'd criticize it in my face, also mentioning HR would have a fit over it when I interviewed for jobs.

I then asked her what she'd do if SHE were HR and was interviewing equally qualified candidates but one had dreadlocks / wore a hijab / were LGBT. And she straight-up said she'd hire the other candidate because they'd be "cleaner", also saying "Asians just ARE more qualified" etc. I.e. mom straight up admitted to SUPPORTING HIRING DISCRIMINATION. So did my dad too when he joined in.

Finally it escalated so badly my mom told me to go to hell and called me a loser.

I admit I might've been a bit of an ass when refusing to clean the toilet, but I just think my parents' reaction went a bit far. I'd never tell my parents to go to hell.

Your mom is right. Regardless of whether people *should* discriminate, they do it even subconsciously, and it'd be stupid to make yourself look less hireable. Also, if you can't even afford to live away from home, you don't need to be worrying about HRT. Go get a job if you want to waste money on transitioning.

A key question here is: are you paying rent at market value?

If you are then your parents are simply your landlords, and they have no more rights in this situation than any other landlord: they should be leaving you alone except when it comes to collecting rent. How you choose to live your life is your affair.

However, if you are living in their house for free, or at a highly reduced rent level, then it's *their* house, and they are graciously allowing you to live in it when they are under no obligation to. And if that's the case then (within what's legal!) they can make any rules they like about what happens in their own home, and your only options are to respect those rules or to leave. You always have the option to leave; if you choose to stay then understand that you owe them, not the other way round.
