Psychopathy means no affective empathy. It means she won't feel second-hand feelings. A good test to try is yawn in front of her, notice she won't also yawn. It's because the affective empathy is switched off.

Means if she saw you hurt or go through something horrific, it won't move her at all. It'll be as plain and unremarkable as watching clouds go by.

Psychopaths/sociopaths/ASPDs whatever you wanna call em, not all of them are gonna be evil or devoid of care though.

They can have cognitive empathy. Cognitive empathy is where they can think how something may feel. They can use their thoughts and thinking to stand-in for the missing empathy.

They won't feel anything from thinking about your hurt or feelings. But from there they can approximate what the best response should be and then act that out.

And their motivation for doing so will be from a transactional place. They will want to behave in a way that benefits you because they know it will benefit themselves.

Not every psychopath is rigged to pursue things like manipulation or sabotage or criminality. It all depends on whether or not they have a moral code.

Psychos don't feel morality. But they can adhere to a personal moral code that they choose to live by. For example, a religious psychopath will want to act as a good person because they see the logic in it. They also see divine reward in it. So that's what they do.

If you can be okay with this, the relationship can work. You won't develop a 'real' close connection, but you can develop a transactional mutually respectful arrangement that functions about as well as any other relationship out there.

Because most people hear the word ‘psychopath’ and their mind instantly thinks of serial killers, murderers, arsonists, rapists, liars, cheaters, deceivers, manipulators. They instantly think of the caricatures that Hollywood portrayed in shows and movies.

Thing is, psychopaths only make up 1% of the human population. In any given crime or betrayal, chances are it’s a non-psycho who kills you, or cheats you.

Well it’s one of those things that psychiatrists failed to pin down as truly existing. That’s why they stopped using ‘psychopathy’ and ‘sociopathy’ as a clinical diagnostic since the 80’s and 90’s. Now it’s all ‘spectrums’ lol. And the spectrum for psychopathy is surprisingly large. According to it, I am on that spectrum. So are people with autism or adhd, both of those are the most common mental disorders out there. So in that respect, there’s tons of so-called psychopaths out there.

Psyche (mind/soul)
Pathos (Suffering/Ailment)

Suffering soul is what it is directly translated. And according to modern psychiatry, psychopathy as a trait, means seeking of short-term gain at the expense of your own well-being or the dignity of others around you.

In other words, psychopathy is when you are internally at odds with your own psyche, that you seek instant relief in the form of dopamine to keep yourself distracted from your own self.

I'm in complete agreement too on this. You're spot on about their mercurial nature, which if OP were to pay attention to, would naturally turn him off in an instant. To be mercurial means to be predictable. We say mercurial because mercury is a hot and cold planet. One minute the psycho is all hot, emblazed in passion, whether that's love bombing or devaluing and abusing. Next minute they don't care. They're cold. They are dead inside, and they see their partner as dead too.

What makes the psychopath unpredictable in their shifting unlike for example, a Bipolar's mood swings, or an autist's sensory overloaded meltdown, or an adhd's dysregulated length of mood changes etc etc is that the psycho has no pattern. It's completely seemingly random, happens on a dime. Just one single word or gesture can set them off. The internal reasoning for it is known only to the psycho. That depends on your living situation - if you signed a lease with her, tough shit. You'd have to get in touch with your landlord and figure something out if you want to bail early. If that's not an option, buckle up and hope for the best until the lease ends. If you're not living with her, this whole process will be much easier. Take her out on a date - somewhere pubic but not crowded (parks are a good option weather-providing). Tell her that, "It's just not working, I want to break up" and rattle off some reasons that sound believable enough. It would probably benefit you to be recording the conversation on your phone without her knowledge. If she loses her cool and threatens you outright, take that recording to a court and file for a restraining order. Even better if she threatens you over text (less legally dubious and cell companies can verify her number). Even if she doesn't threaten you, be vigilant for the next several weeks and let loved ones know your situation. Maybe install a ring camera to make sure she doesn't stalk your house. Basically, don't be a dumb-ass and cover all your bases. Does she own a gun? If so, that could prove VERY problematic. If not, at least keep something on your person to defend yourself. If you don't have a CPL, depending on your state and municipality, you may be able to carry a switch-blade. Better than nothing. This is the absolute worst-case scenario, though. More likely than not, you'll just have to deal with a bitch harassing you.
