How do I learn how to play the guitar in as short of a time as possible?

Just play it and get obsessed with it naturally. When I was in college and had the free time, I spent all day playing guitar.

Define "play the guitar"
That can mean anything from playing some rock riffs and strumming chords to playing Bach fugues

By searching for "learn guitar" in the archives, and then reading the many, many results. Oh wait, you can't do that because of your evident retardation. I'm sorry, it's over.

I started bass in january. By starting with easy songs and working my way up, I'm pretty proud of my progress so far. Just play like 10 minutes a day,

Guitar is one of those things that becomes more complex with time. If you want to be mediocre than congrats you've learnt the guitar. The real fruits come over a long period of time. Guitar and music in general is like learning a language and the more "words" you know the more in depth the conversation is. If you want a good starting point play your instrument when your feeling intense emotions then you'll see that it transcends the rock star archetype. You are what you play

These are valid points to consider.

If you want to play guitar for the sake of just being good at playing then all you need is to practice exercises. That is what you'll spend most of your time doing in the beginning and there is no way around it unless you want your playing to sound bad. Stay disciplined and maybe you can get around to the music part which is where the fun starts. If not then get filtered like many before you who wanted to learn guitar but didn't stick with it. Remember you need to want to do the thing.

Practice as much as possible everyday. Find any YouTube tutorial and go at it. You'll be able to play any basic pop song in a few weeks. The technical stuff (sweeping, etc.) takes years of practice to do it cleanly though. Start slow, REALLY slow and don't up the BPM on your metronome until you can do it in your sleep.

Consistency is a huge learning multiplier. People try to study too long in new hobbies often and burnout or think they can take a break, but then they come back and they've forgotten so much.

Not true, it only takes about 10,000 hrs of practice to get good at an instrument, period.
