I broke my wrist pretty badly and I’m now in a cast that goes from my thumb to my armpit. I’ll be in it for a minimum of 12 weeks. What can I do for fun/not go insane? Has anyone ever done anything like this before? Any tips on surviving so long without my dominant arm?

I had that happen one summer when I was teenager from a skateboarding accident. I spent my time playing runescape with one hand kek.

What bones did you end up breaking? Any advice for surviving life in a cast?

I dislocated and fractured my wrist. Pretty gnarly. It had a dent and was all bent. Took 3-4 nurses to stick the iv in the vein on top of my hand before they popped it back in place. Had a cast all the way up to my shoulder. Itched like hell. I remember taking coat hangers to scratch my arm. I still skated that summer with it on which probably wasn't a good idea because it would get sweaty and stinky. When they took it off it smelled way bad. Good memories though because I had all my friends sign it.

What was really hard was relearning how to use my arm and rebuilding that muscle strength back when it was off. I remember my arm being considerably skinnier than my other arm. Took some time to rehabilitate and get confident reusing it.

Oof, brutal. That sounds way worse than mine. I just have a fracture of the proximal pole of my scaphoid bone. If anything though, it makes it more frustrating that I have two foot long cast that stretches from halfway up my thumb to my armpit for a bone the size of a cashew. I take it you never figured out a good way to deal with the smell? I’m worried it’s gonna smell gross in like a week and I’ll still have 11 more to go.

Also remember using plastic bags over it when I showered which was kind of annoying. This was like 20 years ago so maybe they have waterproof castes now idk.

How long did it take you to feel normal again?

A few weeks to a month? Idk it was so long ago I can't remember. I do remember it being a little painful and uncomfortable trying to write in school after it was removed. I was also a teenager so I didn't care it smelled lol. If it happened now as an adult that would gross me out. I basically just played runescape with my left hand and occasionally went to the skatepark with my friends.

They do, but I don’t have the money to afford the up charge. They were gonna charge me like $500 more for it. They really wanted to do surgery but I really don’t have the money for that which sucks because with surgery, I might only be in a cast for like 4 weeks before getting a brace and starting PT. With the cast, I am looking at 12 weeks in a cast as a BEST CASE SCENARIO. Worst case could be 6 months or more.
