I had to put my cat down on Saturday and I just feel heartbroken. I'm like having to walk into the work bathroom and have a good 10 second cry then pop back out. I'm having to look away from my infant son and hold back the tears. Little nigga was 7 next month. Is it normal to miss a pet, a cat, this much? I'm sorry I didn't try harder to bring you back in Dio

This was the only picture I had saved with a cat in it

I just put my 5 year old lil buddy down yesterday. Raised him from a kitten. Yes, it's normal. You lost a family member.

It is absolutely normal, yes. Any decent cat owner goes through this. As Queen Elizabeth II once observed (albeit in a very different context) "Grief is the price we pay for love".

It may sound callous, but it will almost certainly help to cheer you up if you get a new cat sooner rather than later. It won't stop you missing the old one, but it will give you some new, positive feelings to focus on.

I already have two others, as well as a dog, and a 4 month old. I feel a bit overwhelmed with obligation if anything. The good part about him was that, while all of them needed certain special care and attention, he was so easy, and got along with all of them, and found the perfect time to seek your affection.

That's right. You "had" to. That's where the heartbreak comes from, as opposed to the cat just dying naturally and not needing to grieve beyond a basic level since there's nothing you could have done to stop it. You were likely coerced into it, and now you have feelings of regret.

Getting a new cat sooner rather than later, and give it your utmost care and love so that it gets to die naturally when the time comes, will fix your heartbreak.

Meant to add that I'm sorry you had to go through that. Euthanasia and all.
