Becuase it expresses spiritual truths over literal interpritations.
Example - becoming addictied/obsessed with the worldy leads to destruction, hedonism and is thus sinful.
You enslave yourself to modern techonolgies and thus lose your freedom, which makes you seek even more of it as a coping mechanism, and you ruin your humanity.

Even though we all have intrinsic humanity which nobody can take away from us, nobody should be able to give up their lives for what is sinful becuase we detach ourselves from it.
Even today, some consider the disabled, the lazy, the sick, the comatose non-human, so are we, who have the luck of not being that, supposed to relinquish it through enslavingourselves to modernity and become like them?
