yesterday I got sent to the hospital after my xrays and apparently had been suffering from a pneumothorax

The doc made a cut under my armpit somewhere and shoved in some metal rots and a tube of some sort with a machine thats pumping out air

I'm getting released from this machine tommorow but the pain of the machine is still there and they wont give me any opioids due to me being 22 years old

Will I be able to do sports and such ever again or am I fucked for life? I've heard it can reopen itself and I don't want to go through this again its like hell on earth

Surgical pain is awful but not permanent. For something that cuts through ligaments are soft tissue it can take up to 6 or 8 months for things to go completely back to normal though. They'll probably prescribe muscle relaxants or NSAIDs for post-surgical pain and recovery.

I had fentanyl as a bolus after my shoulder surgery but apparently I wasn't completely out of the general anesthesia fog when they gave me the instructions on how/when to use it. So I over-relied on it the day after surgery and got horrible constipation as a side effect.
