I've been having a GI bleed for a couple of weeks. I ignored it at first, but after a few days I'm filling the whole bowl up multiple times a day with blood. And now there's a sharp stabbing pain in my side that comes and goes throughout the day.

I contacted Urgent Care and they said all they could do was give me painkillers and to either go to an ER or my PCP. The ER said that they would stablize me, but GI bleeds are low priority and I could end up waiting for hours or even days.

So, I went to my PCP who gave me a referral to a gastro. The specialist can see me in 1-2 months.

I'm getting worried. I'm bleeding a lot, the pain is getting worse, and despite having pretty strong insurance, I feel like I'm just going to die in my sleep from anemia while waiting to be seen.

Go to ER. You probably need blood.

If you make it clear how bad the bleeding is and how much pain you're in, I think the ER will take you seriously.
