Due to different factors I'm feeling completely disillusioned and hopeless about my life. I'm not gonna list those factors though, because they don't matter to my question. What I want advice for is just that feeling, hopelessness itself. How do you deal with that without feeling completely unmotivated to do anything in life?

Go outside, exercise, get off the internet. It's pretty fucking simple. Do you think subsistence agrarian farmers were crying about being hopeless? They went to bed tired and woke up ready to survive. Do whatever the fuck you have to do to go to bed tired. Chances are whatever shit you get up to outside will help fix other problems in your life, too, but you have to stop being a lazy fag.

Drown it out with something that can consistently hold your attention. Usually a hobby. Obviously anime and video games go a long way, but it's easy to think it's working but in reality you found a shit anime or shit video game. A more worthwhile hobby would be learning an instrument. I'm 100% certain I would have killed myself already if I didn't have personal 10/10's on my hard drive and then picked up the piano when I got bored again.

Always enjoyed music and could pick around a guitar but I saw O Brother Where Art Thou? and realized I should learn traditional American music. Picked up a banjo and started playing clawhammer 5 years ago, fiddle 3 years ago. Music is the most personally enriching and rewarding thing in my life. It has led me to friendships, community, and personal satisfaction. If I didn't already have a wife I am pretty sure it would get me laid, too.

It's just a feeling. You acknowledge it, and let it pass. Sometimes you should not trust feelings.

It depends on whats causing it, I think. For me, I had to accept that i was the person making me feel that way, and it stemmed from growing up with an emotionally abusive and alcoholic father figure who criticized me much in the same way I did to myself as an adult. I don't think you can change it unless you address the underlying reasons or causes.
