I would like to start attending church services and events, as it's pretty much the only option for regular social interaction in my area. I have no intention of being disrespectful toward their beliefs, but I feel like I'd be taking advantage of them by using their services without really holding their beliefs. Is this a valid concern? Is it socially acceptable to utilize religious services in this way? I think my biggest fear is having to explain myself, I feel like "I'm just here for the community" isn't a very good excuse and I don't know how people will react to it.

You're a perfect project for them. You tell them you're there to learn more and you find peace with the idea of their community. I've considered doing the same. Shit's tough rn.

You should be perfectly welcome at most churches.

You'll do fine. If you talk to them about religion, you'll be surprised how mant regular churchgoers actually don't believe that much

Some people come just for the music, some for the bells and smells, some for the community. All are welcome.
