I'm an engineer, specifically a Systems Engineer.
My current work environment is too stressful, far FAR too stressful.
I'm sitting here feeling like my head and heart are about to blow.

I'm very good at my work. I'm also decently skilled at applied maths and physics.

I'm hoping to hear some options or ideas for work that is less stressful than this...
I feel trapped but my head isn't thinking right now.
I'd take a job that's less stress/fewer hours even if it meant a huge pay-cut... I can't live like this.

Consulting, bro. That's always the end-state for an engineer, chemist, or any such thing.

I'm only 30, I don't have enough experience to do consulting.

I'm only 34, and I also don't have the experience, but that's something you will pick up if you go to a good firm. You have your PE license, right? If not, maybe it's time to start studying to get it.

I've got a BEng (Aerospace) for now.
I've got a lot of friends working engineering roles (mostly Chemical Eng) and they're honestly really badly beat up too. Overworked, overstressed, in bad health, etc.

I'm genuinely looking for a way out at this point.
Like I said, I'm willing to take a pay-cut if it means less of this, I can't really take it for "just 10 more years" you know

Engineers come up with solutions with math and shit, right? Start a business and teach your ways to others and do nothing for a living.

I'm a subsystem lead, it fucking sucks man
Section heads eat way more shit though and the pay-raise really isn't that good.

Like my salary is more than enough for my needs. My manager eats 1000x more shit for like an extra $600 (converted) a month.

why is your job stressing you so much? will someone die and you might end up in prison if something goes wrong?

That's a good question.

I suppose it's because I'm sometimes responsible for (significant parts of) multi-million projects, and a lot of people depend on the quality of my work and how meticulous I have to be.
I have to understand a lot of things, even things beyond my job duties just to be able to make sure my work goes smoothly and isn't hindered by another engineer/section that isn't pulling their weight.
There's also just A LOT of work, especially during key phases of projects, times where I'm expected to work 12-15hrs, times where I'm the ONLY ONE in the team that knows what I'm doing (i.e. I'm driving alone with no one to bounce ideas or thoughts off of, or to sanity-check me)
It all piles up into this huge mound of stress and bad health...

What's worse is I used to think
>It'll get easier with experience
But seeing the more experienced guys (Seniors/Specialists with 12+ yrs of experience) it's the same shit. Stress, bad health, etc.
