I grew up online and therefore have developed a “based” (for lack of a better word” perspective on things, but at the same time I’m an artist music guy so literally everyone I socialize with irl are left leaning. I don’t openly espouse my feelings about things, but nowadays politics is unavoidable and I feel like a fraud concealing my chudistic nature to people whom I admire and respect. During a conversation about comedy recently I admitted that I disliked politics and wished it was kept out of entertainment. I was promptly scolded and told that being apolitical is inherently right wing. I feel like I exposed myself and lost favor with the crowd I was hanging with. I just want to fit in with the local scene and not feel like I’m lying to people, but it feels like even trying to stay neutral is unacceptable. Should I adopt the politics of my “tribe” so to speak, or be myself and inevitably become ostracized?
