So I got laid off a while ago and I realize , you know I should probably get some education to pivot out.

Now I never got my degree the first time around in my early 20s due to life circumstances , but I took a buunch of classes , I basically have a minor finished, all electives covered , all thats left is a major which I made zero progress on cause essentially everything I took covers the minor and electives so its STILL gonna take 2Y+ starting from the fall

But I'm running low on time/options/patience - so despite everything I think it might be better to go for a trade that in two years time would leave me with at least a practical skill.

Don't fall for the trade meme. You're destroying your body for a job with zero career growth

Bachelors of Science - I have everything but the major and the real challenge is , all my math and science skills are rusty AF so to restart would some SERIOUS work unless its something like BIO in which case whatever.

But when I think about anything that interests me - I just dont fucking know , I would spend a semester just trying various science classes and then what? maybe deciding I dont like it when I get to 2nd/3rd year classes?

It would not be a hard trade , something softer like cooking/culinary so pure stress but its not necessarily back-breaking

That's still retarded, you're wasting 2 years of your life to become a cook and work with a bunch of fat mexicans while the chef yells at you, making peanuts.

compared to the shit I've had over the last decade , I get to work with food, eventually find a good team, maybe make my way to an upscale establishment one day, and one day start my own food truck and just hit the road for the next 20 years.

you'll only have regret afterwards for not completing your degree
just consider what your job prospects are and what possible jobs entail and whether you want to do that
most bio... go into administrative or desk jobs most likely

Hmmm maybe but what do you do if anything WORTH majoring in is too hard?

Sure I could do bio but there's zero jobs for the undergrad level for that , everyone is MSc or higher to work in a lab or in the field unless you specialize in like forestry or agriculture etc etc that might put you in the field.

Do a trade, like plumbing or welding. Once you get enough experience you can move to wherever you want, start your own business, and start raking in the easy money.

Fuck the trades. I've done that shit and damn near every other kind of blue collar work. It's mind numbing in the worst way and you'll meet the dumbest people in the world in those jobs. Think schizo/q anon/ conspiracy posting but in real life and being completely serious. I'm finishing up my degree at the end of the year and I'm beyond ready to put this shit behind me. I really wish I went back sooner instead of wasting years languishing in these jobs I absolutely despised.

>But when I think about anything that interests me - I just don't fucking know
You're not required to stay in you degree field. Making career changes when you have a degree is a lot easier than making a career change with just a trade. A lot of professional experience can be utilized in different career fields and there are plenty of jobs out there that require people to have some kind of degree but don't really care about the major such as becoming a commissioned officer in the military or being an FBI agent. I'm studying human factors engineering which kind of mix of design, engineering, and behavioral psychology and how to design things around the abilities and limitations of humans.

>It would not be a hard trade , something softer like cooking/culinary so pure stress but its not necessarily back-breaking
That's an awful idea. Don't invest good money in to bad paying jobs. What if you come to the realization that being a line cook really does suck? Then what? It's not like being line cook has a lot of transferable skills. That is exactly why I recommend a degree.

Good luck anon. I hope you make it. I went back to school at 30.

NTA but what the fuck are the alternatives?
Office jobs are full of women, so it's obscenely difficult to get work there.
IT jobs are full of pajeets, so it's obscenely difficult to get work there.
Corporate jobs are full of Asians, so it's obscenely difficult to get work there.

That literally just leaves hospitality and sales. Sales is disgusting and hospitality will kill whatever is left of your humanity because it's depressing and overwork for shit pay.

That's a lot of cope anon. The majority of the white collar people at my company are white men. Even HR is about 50/50 male and female even though HR is typically seen as women work and is a female dominated field. However we are an engineering and manufacturing company.

> IT jobs are full of pajeets, so it's obscenely difficult to get work there.
Plenty of work in IT but unfortunately the slog through help desk work is inevitable.

>Corporate jobs are full of Asians, so it's obscenely difficult to get work there.
That's just bullshit and you know it. There aren't anywhere near enough Asians in this country to fill all of the corporate jobs out there.
