Hello, /adv/.
Have a question but need to give a bit of a context first.
I have a decent office job. It's nice, easy but there are negative opportunities to grow, the commute is 3h in overcrowded trains, the pay is barely sustainable, and I might lose my home (which is an extremely small room where I can barely stretch my legs. I have barely any room for clothes or a small table) in a few months. There are no reasonably priced apartments and since I work for a huge corpo I don't get to negotiate anything and can only work on site. I've been looking for a job I could do remotely so I can move in to my parents across the country but got no luck in over a year. My skills are just basic and it's mostly office PC usage. With all of that said what skills should I try and learn? I have some cash saved so even if I were to become a NEET I could sustain myself but I need to learn something that would really increase my "hireability" within a year from now on. And it needs to be a remote job since I'm living in an utter shithole. I'm a yuropoor if that matters

Is anything preventing you from going back in with your parents while you find your footing again and look for a new job? This is not the 20th century anymore, everything is expensive and fucked up, and parents know that children stay longer or need a place to come back to for stability
As for skills, what are you passionate about?

I can't go back because there are no job opportunities there except menial work but unless I absolutely have to I'm not working myself to the bone again. I've had menial jobs before and I'm too weak for them.
As for passions I like video editing, spreadsheets, and video games but none of these really ever helped. Was thinking about learning to code.
And sorry for late reply.

I was saying to go back just to recharge and think about your next step forward. Like spend a month to six if their place and plan out your future, talk to them about it, I am sure they would love to feel involved.

>video editing
You might find a market in this. Many of the people who go to do video content actually hate editing and prefer to only be the star or writer. Look up on both online job listing sites and in sites/communities specific to video editing what people are hiring for. Best part is it is usually expected to be long distance.
>videogames
This can be a horrible idea or a half decent idea depending on what specifically you go for. Right now AAA is very abusive to most workers. Skills that get hired quickly but also get let go quickly are some that almost every production needs and are generic skills like 3d modeling. There are some positions like graphics programmer that are a lot more lucrative because there are so few people who actually understand the subject in any way that matters for making new stuff.

I do plan to go back to recharge and plan next month but only for a week so I don't lose too much money or worse lose my current job before I get a new one. I would rather not be a parasite if I don't have to.
>video editing
I will look some offers up then however I do worry that the contracts will be short and shaky.
>video games
I can deal with abuse but yeah
>Skills that get hired quickly but also get let go quickly
Still might give it a go and hope I somehow stay.
In any case thank you. Have this pic of a cat.

We are currently in one of the worst unemployment crisis especially among the young generation in America. I am certain your parents will be understanding.
>video editing contracts will be short
Depends, some content creators just want a stable and trusted editor. Obviously if you just do editing for wedding videos it will probably be a difficult gig based career.
The pay per hour is much better, though.
I know of highschoolers that were charging close to 100 an hour. A good editor is a good editor.
Cute cat

Apparently not only America but Europe too.
Again, thank you. /3/ will be my new home then.

honestly menial work (manual labor?) sounds better than 3h+ daily commute
have you looked at what's available in a 3h commute distance from your parents' place?

With 3h commute I at least get to browse 4chan while manual labor in my home town was gruelling and every night I felt pain coming back from work. I will look into it as a last resort when I start running out of money. Most of it is the same warehouse work I've used to do before my current job.

Yeah, already on it in case /3/ or video editing doesn't pan out.

Wasn't aware /adv/ doesn't support spoilers. Unless it's about the job.
