Hello, I just received a notification from my electricity provider.
In 8 months I've somehow used more than 2500 kWh of electricity, which is unexpectedly high. There are very few electric appliances in our flat (heating and cooking are on gas) and are used pretty sparingly:
1 fridge with freezer - A++ label, doesn't seem to be the issue, no buzzing or any signs of malfunction
1 washing machine - A+++ label, used about once a week
kettle - used once or twice a day
air fryer - used about twice a month
lights - used pretty sparingly, all of us either study or work, we don't really spend a lot of time at home
There are 3 of us on the flat, each one of us has a phone and a low end laptop.
How on earth could we have reached such a high power draw? Is there an explanation for this? It's a very small flat in a historical house (Europe). Thanks anons.

Stolen electricity for mining.

How is this achievable? They would have to drill through the wall, wouldn't they? Can I prove this somehow? I tried shutting and unplugging everything for an hour or so and the draw has stopped.

That one is a real mystery, OP. Someone could have tapped into a circuit for cryptomining, but if so that would still draw power when everything else was plugged in. If there is no power draw when everything is unplugged, it has to be one of the known appliances.

Might be worth taking a multimeter and comparing the draw on circuit (tested in breaker box) compared to the expected draw

The only appliance that is plugged in 24/7 is the aforementioned fridge, which doesn't seem to be the issue - no buzzing or any sound that would indicate malfunctioning thermometer. I haven't tested it with multimeter yet, but I will probably get one and give it a go. Could something be wrong with the wires in the wall or the sockets? Sorry for the dumb phrasing I don't understand electricity at all. Also there was this very weird thing, from the first of January to 17th of June (the second period they've measured) the consumption jumped exactly 2 MWh (from 17 747 to 19 747 kWh). Perhaps it could be a electrometer issue?
