I know personally, my parents just harass me about what I should do with my life, what my plans are, pressure me into doing what they want, guilt trip me about what I haven't achieved yet, or mistakes I've made, etc. It is impossible for me to hang out with them as friends, we don't have that type of relationship, it is very much a parent-child relationship.
Also, most parents cockblock. Hanging out with your parents is very different than having a group of friends your own age. You can't talk to qts or go to parties or talk about sexual things etc. if your parents are there. They also don't understand your generation's slang/memes and it would be cringe if they did. So overall, most people's parents are just suppressing and lame. Your friend's most likely are, so it's hard for him to understand why you like hanging out with yours.
