I just found out that my aunt has cancer and I need to visit her before it's too late. Unfortunately she is outside of the US and I don't qualify for the "life and death emergency" category. The last time I had a passport was when I was a kid so I'd have to apply for a new one.

From what I've seen online, I can only utilize the urgent travel service if I have proof of travel, and I have no fucking clue when or how long I have.

A dude told me about a woman who wanted to travel somewhere but have no money. She offered to take pictures to the airline company and they accepted it. You can think of ideas like hers.

Find the telephone number for the country's government department of travel. Or at least a US embassy in that country. Call them and they should be able to guide you in what to do

Look up how much an expedited passport costs. You are not going anywhere without one. Then you need to look up the passport/visa requirements for that country you are going to.

Gain personal agency and solve the problem. If you want to go now, you book the travel for now.

I got a passport done IN ONE DAY FOR really non-essential travel.

You just book the plane/hotel, show them it’s that soon(week maybe?), and the center will (hopefully) process it in the morning and you return later that same day to collect.

I think you can show up even a few days before your travel date to give room for error. These expedited sites are in major US cities, some may be easier than others to get an appointment.

What I did (which was risky maybe) was fly to the less popular city center place night before, got passport that day then flew international out that night.

Go in person to the passport office, with everything you need (photo, ID, etc). You can get a passport on the same day.

I regret not taking the time to visit her in the past years. We all need to make the best of the time we have on this planet, and make sure to spend enough time with loved ones while we still can.
