I am never going to make things right with some people, and have nightmares about it for the rest of my life, and I have to accept that... don't I?

If you have reflected on how you've wronged these people, repented, and changed yourself so that you treat people differently moving forward, then allow yourself experience redemption by forgiving yourself. You can solidify it by making different choices in similar situations moving forward.

You don't need to identify with the worst of your past behavior if you transform yourself and become someone better moving forward. Life is full of making mistakes and learning from them.

If you happen to have the opportunity to reach out and speak to any of them then offer your condolences and move on whether they decide to forgive you or not.

Other guy is right. Learn from your past mistakes, then move on.
Anything else is self destructive behavior.
