How do you start and maintain conversations with people ?
And how do you get anything to say without a clear concrete goal, as an information to communicate or request ?

Sometimes there isn’t a goal. Sometimes people just want to talk. You have to get good at continuing conversations. Nod your head. Say mmhmm. I’m sorry to hear that. That’s unfortunate. How’s your day going. If they start talking to much you have to find ways to politely end conversation. Have a good day. Enjoy the rest of your day etc etc. as you do it you get better. When there is a goal that’s when you can have deeper conversations.

>Sometimes people just want to talk
I get it for normal people, what I don't get is how to start a conversation without any clear purpose
>Nod your head. Say mmhmm. I’m sorry to hear that. That’s unfortunate. How’s your day going
Already tried use set phrases like that, didn't really worked and only lead to short answers followed by awkward silence
I didn't notice me getting any better, it is just confusing as usual
> When there is a goal that’s when you can have deeper conversations
by goal I only meant passing or requesting a discrete piece of information needed for work or an assignment
don't see how that can lead to any sort of deep conversation(desu I not sure what is meant by that)

I like to cheat on this by making up a goal. it helps me maintain interest in that person, which makes the conversation better for both sides.

for example if i vaguely know what a person does for work, ill decide my goal is to obtain their professional insight on the industry, but you need to ease into it with less personal questions or it seems autistic. having the end goal makes the small questions have a purpose though which is nice
