Absolute bullshit. Dopamine isn’t like a gas tank that gets overfilled. It's a neurotransmitter that’s constantly being produced, released, and reabsorbed as part of normal brain function. It doesn’t accumulate in your brain in the way “detox” implies, because it's not an opiate metabolite or other impurity that lingers and hampers bodily function. You can’t deplete or overload your system in a way that needs a hard reset. People without good levels of dopamine are not healthy human beings in a good spot.

Yeah i get that litterally detoxing from dopamine is bullshit, but does the idea of getting rid of instant gratification activities has some merit to it? Won't i be more more motivated to do boring things if i stop things that are highly stimulating?

You can’t stop going to 4chan. That’s a fact.

No. Motivation follows action, people on this board love the idea that you can just change conditions and this wonderful plateau will occur where the muses finally inspire you to create and work like you were always meant to.

The reality is, it's boring work and effort, building habits every single day when you hate them, and not cheating. A gooner daily stoner who forces himself to go to the gym every day and counts every calorie is in a better position to build meaningful replacement behaviors than a clean living monk lifestyle guy who sits in bed and waits for motivation to show up

The body does it naturally with the dopamine-prolactine mechanism but if you do drugs then it's a whole different story.

/adv/ expert here. Yes, there is merit to the idea of a dopamine detox. >>33406021 is being obtuse. The "detox" part is metaphorical.
You can accustom yourself to cheap tricks, easy dopamine, instant gratification. Things like porn, fast food, forums, video games, are supernormal stimuli, that is, a stimulus which engages with the reward system MORESO than what our reward system evolved for. 10000 years ago you saw maybe 15 women in your entire life, and your recreational activities were limited to wrestling with your boys and throwing shit at trees. Now you wake up and immediately are inundated with more intense stimulation in 45 seconds than all your ancestors combined did in their entire lives, all of it coming from a little rectangle that you sleep with next to your cushy bed.
Yes our reward system adapts to whatever lifestyle we feed our brain, yes if you goon all the time and play world of warcraft for 6 hours a day you will be less sharp, less perceptually ready, more tired, will have more difficulty concentrating, planning, thinking, etc., than someone who hikes and works out and is very strict about what they consume, and does shit like research and read long books in his spare time.

During which context would you find it easier to sit down and read a book for an extended length of time without becoming distracted? In a room with a bed, bookshelf, and chair, OR in a room with a bed, bookshelf, chair, computer table, computer, iPad, iPhone?

If you are deprived of the absolutely surreal amount of frenetic bullshit stimulation you are so accustomed to for long enough, boring ass shit like reading philosophy suddenly becomes very interesting.

you can't literally detox but cutting distractions is pretty useful to be productive. You also need a plan, you need to know what you want to accomplish and how can you get there.

Yes, it's good to take a break from all the likes and retweets and gacha summoning and (You) farming from the internet.

None of yall remember when 4chan was down for a couple of weeks? It was great.

Sure, not overstimulating will be good for you, but the only true "cure" is to learn to appreciate the most mundane things in life.
