How do ya'll keep your trash/recycling?
I've been noticing ants in the trashcans behind my house and they're starting to wander into the home which is a pain.

If they are going into your house that means they're attracted to something, probably sweet. Try to figure out where they're going to. Ants don't simply wander randomly in groups, they send out scouts and then go where there's food.
There's plenty of home remedies for fighting off ants which you can look up. e.g. coffee grounds, powdered soap

Well yeah but the problem is that they come in near daily because the trash is right by a window (the only available spot with roofing). So even if I have a snack out for just a bit or my cats don't eat all their food at once an ant will find it and within half a day I'll have them swarming again. I can usually clean them and whatever they are attracted to up but it's a reoccuring issue because of the trash outside.

So I am wondering how others keep their trash so it doesn't become a reoccuring issue between trash pickups/recycling runs.

For the ones in the home you can take some liquid dish soap on your finger and run a zig-zag pattern across areas the ants are traveling through, this will break up their scent trails which will delay them or sometimes prevent them from showing up outright. Next you take some soapy water in a spray bottle and kill any you see. This takes a while, like a week or two maybe, but it eventually works. I've used this method 3 or 4 times in 10 years at two different houses.
