A piece of one my back teeth just chipped off a couple hours ago while I was eating pizza.

It's like I was eating, and then I heard a crack and then there was this tiny solid piece of rock in my mouth.

This was a tooth that had fillings on it. Which also chipped off last year but I didn't get it refilled.

Now my fucking tooth is chipped off. I have the piece in my hand.

Oh fuck.

I can't call the health clinic to schedule an appointment until monday morning.

Is there something I'm supposed to do to preserve the piece that came off?

Can they reattach it? Or what? Are they just gonna give me more filling? Or create some prosthetic piece and glue it on there?

What the fuck man? I haven't had a tooth come out of me since I was 20 when they removed my wisdom teeth.

What happens now?

Where I'm from, we don't call the doctor for dental issues, we call the dentist.

This clinic provides dental services, as well as behavioral health services, and other health services. They're not just regular doctors.

if you had a filling fail and it broke off that's it as far as filling will save that tooth

most likely you need root canal and crown. extremely unlucky and you might need extraction

Obviously we don't know. It could be anything from just fixing the filling on up. If you are not in constant and excrutiating pain, it is almost certainly something very minor and there is no emergency rush

I'm in no pain at all. It actually feels better now, for some reason.

This wasnโ€™t a filling? I had it happen March of last year I believe but it was a large filling. More than half the tooth was gone for sure. After I got it fixed, it was super sensitive for months.

It's a tooth that has one if those white fillings that I got 20 years ago as a kid. Now that I am 38, I guess the filling finally started to give out last year.

Tiny pieces of it just kept coming out. I started being sensitive to cold things, but warm things were okay.

Then this year it just evolved to a big hole, about a quarter of the tooth. As I put my tongue inside, I had no idea how much of my tooth they drilled out back when I was a kid to remove my then cavities. Cause the filling basically filled that shit up.

But fast forward to last month, I guess that pain temporary I felt when I was eating some hard crunchy cooked potatoes last month was my tooth getting a fracture.

I noticed the fracture two weeks ago.

Then yesterday, when eating that pizza... CRUNCH... and then there was the piece of the tooth in my food as I was chewing.

No blood, no pain. Yeah, still sensitive to extremely cold fluids, but eating regular stuff, I feel fine. I feel fine as I'm talking.

It just feels so sad that a piece of me is now gone. I haven't felt this way since they gave me back my extracted wisdom teeth in a cute smiley faced tooth shaped container, back when I was 20.

The fillings I have in my teeth are old as fuck man. More than 20 years old. This is the first one to give out.

So what advice are you looking for?
See a dentist, which you should have done when you first noticed the problem. An evaluation even without insurance is like $50-$100, some even do it for free.
You should be going for cleanings every 6 months. Even a hygienist is going to catch a filling crumbling.
Instead you wait until part of the tooth shears off.
Who knows what you need because you are too lazy to post an image. Could be anything from a filling to an extraction. Im surprised you had a composite from 20 years ago last that long. Metal were better back then. Every few years they improve the composite formula. Now white fillings are pretty good and they rarely use metal.
I would get two opinions unless you are in excruciating pain.
Life goes on. As people get older their teeth generally degrade, although I know some people who have good tooth genetics.

Well looks like the clinic doesn't have any dentists available to see me until the 20th, so I'll just have to wait till then.

I had a tooth break and waited years till I was in agonizing pain to do anything. Don't recommend that. You'll be fine just get an appointment, you may have to get the tooth pulled or get a crown or implant if you can afford it

Yikes, I hope they don't have to pull it. The break is above the gum line. Would be nice if they just clean it and sort of fill the missing area with more filling or something.

My appointment is on the 20th.
