Did overhunting or a Younger Dryas event drive them all to extinction? I find it hard to believe that cave men wiped out entire species of animals. But wikipedia is telling me otherwise.

Cave men with atltatls and other advanced technology.

In any case look at the bigger picture. These animals surivived millions of years of temperature extremes, yet die out when monkeys show up at their doorstep.

Pretty convenient, no?

The idea that a younger dryas event killed all the megafauna is a very North American closed mindset. Could a comet or something have struck North America and killed a lot of animals 12 kya? Sure. But that doesn’t explain why the Asian megafauna went extinct 100 kya, or why the Australian megafauna went extinct 50 kya, or why Madagascan megafauna went extinct 1 kya, or why New Zealand’s megafauna went extinct less than 500 years ago. All just happen to coincide with a certain upright monkey arriving

Humans dont have to hunt them directly to render them extinct. Hunting their main prey and exploiting the flora/territories they rely on is enough to threaten them and when one species goes out the others that rely on it are in a shakier position.

Man arrived in the Americas at least 28-35kya, not 12kya. The decline and loss of the American Megafauna was influenced by humans but humans were not the only factor.

Are you
1. ESL
Or
2. Stupid

This is a dichotomy because it has 2 choices.
It's also a false dichotomy because you could be BOTH ESL AND Stupid

At the very least I think the ground sloths, glyptodonts, and mammoths were wiped out by humans. Previous climate shifts were weathered by them just fine, and they lived all across the Americas. Giant short-faced bears and the saber-toothed cats probably went extinct more from competition than direct hunting.
