Poop is mammal's problem. It's used to delineate territory and can't be left in dens or rest/hangout areas. The ancestral justifcation for wolf/dog coprophagia is actually their intestinal transit times being fast enough and their stomach acid strong enough to remove potentially diseased/parasitized turds from the common area and deposit the problem further away, if it's even a problem after soaking in battery acid.
