Why are dogs like this?

Because wolves were already like that

Some people really overestimate the capabilities of 40,000 year old cavemen.

My mutt used to happy dance like that but she died a few years ago. I'm sad about that but also that her friend, the pit/boxer mix next door is now fifteen years old (!) and can't get up or down the garden stairs or down the front stairs for walks anymore so I don't see her these days. All the other dogs on this block are tiny faggot dogs (we don't know what Deeoji was; she was a yellow-brown mutt with the face, size and body shape of a bearded collie but short-haired and the wrong colour). Anyway, I'm not sure if it's worse for your dog to die unexpectedly like Deeoji did or watch your dog slowly deteriorate like the one next door.

i suspect they just think we're big retards when they see us working hard on some dumb human thing. and most of the times they may even be right. but in the end we provide the food, like an anon said, and that's enough for them.

Technically that wolf's ancestors had nothing to do with dogs. They're cousins. The actual ancestor is some extinct variant of a tiny wolf like the Arabian wolf. You can see it in how feral dogs end up defaulting to a general medium size.

>ACKSHUALLY
You only know that modern wolves do not descend from dogs and they share an ancestor. Just because they split, does not mean dogs were not wolves first. Dogs were first domesticated in northeast asia, and the earliest likely dog skeletons found are so hard to distinguish from just being slightly smaller siberian wolves that autistic soi-entists insist they aren't dogs. And yet we keep finding cavemen with them.

>You can see it in how feral dogs end up defaulting to a general medium size.
You see that because most feral dogs live in third world shitholes like india, so they adapt to the environment and become inferior pests and a disgrace to their ancestors. Hindustan street dogs are not the original, they are a derivation of a derivation.

badgers are better at digging than coyotes but coyotes are faster than badgers so if they hunt burrowing animals together it's vastly more efficient than either hunting alone. Either the rat hides from the coyote and gets dug out by the badger or it runs from the badger and gets run down by the coyote

They do, with their owners. What's different is the socialization window, dog-dog aggression, and same sex aggression.

I think you're giving dogs less credit than they deserve. At the very least, dogs are extremely good at empathy, they're certainly better at reading faces than my autistic ass.

Dingos are the closest thing there is to the dogs of 25,000 years ago. Of course even the dogs of 25,000 years ago had been living with people and subject to human selection for 15,000 years by then. Any wild urban dog will have its form informed by its niche, same with any feral dog without access to ungulate prey. Even dingos are influenced by this, since they have to contend with roos and wallabies instead of antelope and deer.

And they're nowhere near actual gray wolf size.
>Even dingos are influenced by this, since they have to contend with roos and wallabies instead of antelope and deer.
Arguably harder for a canid to take down a kangaroo.
