I got him about five days ago, and I've only seen him twice. I haven't tried to touch him, or hand feed him, or anything, but when he hears me coming, he runs back into his burrow, even if he was on his wheel. I'm so offended.

try and remember you're a huge scary monkey who could eat the hamster in one bite. In fact, eating by the hamster could help, just sit quietly next to it for 5 or 10 minutes, then bust out some tasty crunchy thing like peanuts that it can smell and hear you eating, and then share a bit.

Nigga give him time. My cat refused to show herself to me for 4 full months when i got her. In my very small apartment. She was living under my bed and started hissing and spitting like crazy when i looked at her. I put up a camera to check on her, she only came out at night to eat when i was sleeping. After 4 months, out of the fucking blue, i woke up in the middle of the night because she rubbed herself at my face. Just to retreat back under the bed when she noticed i was awake, but it was our start, and soon after she was regularly demanding pets and chilling with me on the couch like a regular cat.

And you're not even talking about a cat, a hamster is even dumber. Give the fucker as much time as he needs. 5 days is nothing.

Be aware of your smell. Hamsters use their nose for ANYTHING, more so than other senses.
When i cleaned and dunked my hand in hamster bedding and food, mine were more lenient with training. Slowly feed them by hand until you can lure them onto your open palm.
If your hamster is older than 1-2 months they are harder to tame.
