the pitbull hate comes down to a few things
>no kill shelters that push them as "lab mixes" onto families
>pitcultists who downplay their history as fighting dogs
>other fanatics who claim pitbulls don't even exist when everyone can recognize a square headed, snub muzzled, droopy lipped, rosebud eared, giant chest pitbull when they see one
>just an extension of hatred to pitbull owners/breeders (majority are black and hispanic in the US)
you want to know my opinion? I think the wolfdog trend is WORSE than pitbulls, it's often the same exact people (single moms) who try and get these wolfdogs too. but since wolfdogs are pretty and look like wolves, nobody has the same zeal against them as pitbulls. mark my words, in 15 years wolfdogs will be maiming and biting tons of people and killing dogs at dog parks due to poor socialization and a more casual attitude towards their ownership, they will be right up there with pitbulls, rottweilers, and german shepherds

Pitbulls are only 6% of dogs by puppy sales, and yet, over 80% of severe bites and fatal attacks, and if shelter intake is assumed to always represent new dogs, pitbulls shoot up from 6% to 20% (more popular than labs, golden retrievers, german shepherds, and huskies combined!) because the average pitbull is returned to a shelter or transferred between shelters at least three times due to unpredictable "aggression".
In strict animal behavior terms, pitbulls are not aggressive dogs.
What they are is extremely prey driven so they will treat human beings and dogs like huskies treat cats.

The wolfdog trend has been going on for fucking ever, and while once in a while someone gets eaten by their own pet (high content and "working wolfdog" breeds), wolves are too timid to be a serious problem for other people. I'm pretty sure all 0-1 fatal husky attacks per year are low content wolfdogs because an actual husky is 30-40lbs and retarded, while half the huskies I see are 60-100lbs and have wolfdog traits like no muzzle stop, double tracking gait, head held down, etc.
Wolves are definitely dog aggressive though. You can tell at dog parks. Wolfdogs, even really low content ones, won't socialize with the other dogs. They'll run around the edge and say hi to people, but they growl at other dogs and want to be left alone.

I would disagree on that. When you look at the "pitbull types" classification there are distinct differences across the board with what breeds are included. There is a clear lineage too. It started with bull amd terrier type dogs which got exported to the US from the UK. Then those dogs formed the pit bull terrier which then went on to creat the amstaff. At the same time in the UK staffies were bred from bull and terrier stock and slowly ended up in the united states to form the """British Staffy""" when in reality it is another americanised version.

The pitbull breed was created by crossing bulldogs, whose original purpose was bull baiting, and terriers, who are small pest control/hunting dogs that have an extreme prey drive, and then selecting the most aggressive ones for pitfighting. That should be the end of the discussion. They have the naive stubbornness of a bulldog that needs to charge an 800kg bull and the adhd killer instinct for small animals from the terrier. Truly a shit combination and not suitable as pets.
