I think you expect too much from a lot of dog owners; for example, senior citizens. Of course they're going to get a toy poodle, maltese, chihuahua, or shi tzu over something that looks like a real canid. And who is going to tell them to get a sled dog or nothing at all? I agree that deformities (flat face, bowed legs, spinal irregularities, etc) shouldn't ever be expressed as part of a breed standard. But shrinking down dog breeds or giving them longer fur that doesn't shed isn't a big deal.

There's at least 5 senior citizens with huskies in my neighborhood. If you are a not an idiot, and do not throw autistic fits over dogs walking at a perfect heel and never sniffing, pissing, or reacting (the only effective policy with huskies is "as long as its not excessive and arm-ripping excitement"), they are easy dogs to own.

My father used to own one when he was younger and just see's it as them becoming lazy at worst, but one of my college friends had one and it was in so much pain that it couldn't leave his dog bed without whimpering. I'm american. Almost no one has an "AKC derpsky". They're all basically slavic village dog mutts because they're stupidly common and 99% are bred at random or by backyard breeders crossing them with random shit and then crossing the mutts with other things that sort of look like huskies.

Huskies were only high performance sled dogs for 50 years out of their 2000 year history. For the other 1950 years, they were a generic village dog like the shiba inu. They hunt, they CAN carry things, and they're shitty guard dogs because they need to be friendly without being autistically trained. Real sled dogs today look and act absolutely nothing like "huskies", which are really just america, canada, and siberia's version of the shiba inu.
