I am a human being who lives with other human beings.

We do things humans would do in our living space we close off to non human life.

No bugs, no rodents, etc.

But for some reason, we have this animal that walks in our house and lays in our beds. We give it food and water and it just chills all day.

Despite her being rather parasitic, I don't mind it oddly. Why is this bros?

Dogs and cats used to pay their rent by hunting/protecting/helping. Now they get to stay by being cute and snuggleable.

I guess so. I often get the urge to pet the apex predator laying on my bed and she just lets me. It feels nice and she looks happy. So when I am unable to pet an animal in my house, I feel sad and lonely.

Dogs aren't apex predators. Wolves were, maybe, but anything smaller than a 100lb dog is squarely in "mesopredator" range.

Cougars, wolves, coyotes & eagles & Bobcats (for small dogs)

No natural predators of cows but doesn't make them apex predators.
