I like Mud Daubers. They're aesthetically appealing and do not sting humans. I would like to have more in my area in the US but unlike many other harmless insects like ladybugs you can't just buy thousands of their eggs on amazon for twenty bucks. Any advice on proliferating this species? Is it even legal to do so?

Just offer lots of their pefered prey species and damb mud. A mud bath attracts some fun species.

Really something special watching them build their nest. I've got an endless amount of them where I live and unfortunately they're really good at getting in the house and dying. I try to let them out when I can but they aren't always cooperative. Sometimes they get lethargic and look dead but a little bit of sugar and water perks them up, though only for a bit. Lovely buggers.

I've been working on my garden this summer, creating mud piles on the ground, and many mud daubers instantly showed up as if they could smell or see the mud from far away

Randomly introducing an animal to any ecosystem is dangerous for all life there, please don't try to do this. If you have mud daubers locally you can simply try gardening to encourage them to visit more, adult wasps can only feed on nectar and for mud daubers specifically they generally prey on spiders which naturaply come from more insects visiting you. Unfortunately wasps don't make great pets as most only live a few months however both tarantula hawks and velvet ants can live about two years in captivity if you enjoy observing them, velvet ants in particular are a lot of fun as they're highly active and can be kept with some other species of insects, even non velvet ants. They both have very nasty stings but most people don't realize that solitary wasps have no desire to sting unless its a prey item to feed a larvae or absolutely necessary for self defense. The reason eusocial wasps and bees sting more is because they have hives that are preyed upon by numerous animals to defend.
