Is the concept of an alpha male in any given animal group a myth?

They exist in some species but not in wolves. "Alpha" wolves are just parents and the rest of the pack is their offspring.

Alpha males as a concept, yes it does not exist. Dominance and hirearchy does exist however but it is seldom monolithic. "Alpha" males, if we are going to treat it as a generalised structure not exclusive to wolves, do not stay alpha for long and can revert back to "beta" or anything lesser within the classical Alpha pack structure because dominance is status which is gained or lost. Dominance is seldom physical too. There are many videos of pack/herd animals where a dominant male can pin and scare another male almost twice his size due to the larger male being inexperienced or anxious. But again this is not permanent, those examples seldom show a year later when that male loses status and the bigger male he once pinned is now buck breaking him. Animal social interactions are like CEOs and boards of directors.

Is the concept of an alpha male not a purely primate concept?

According to who, some liberal arts major? It's been documented that chimpanzee societies function almost exactly how people thought wolf packs functioned

Even the guy who discovered "dominance theory" among wolves has spent the latter part of his life denouncing it. How Caesar Millan and all the "balanced" trainers of the world still get away with pushing that junk is beyond me. Some people just like abusing animals.

Alpha male is a very jewish, anti-family way to say "father".

Conceptually not a myth, nor practically in our species. But I still find it delightful that the males of certain deep sea fish become little parasitic appendages of much larger females, once attached. Nature is nothing like us.

Depends
It was debunked in wolves and the researcher that made that assumption apologized for the misconceptions it created
But in something like elephant seals where there's beach masters you can talk about dominant (alpha) males

No, it's real. You're a beta OP.
