I'm still relatively new to pet ownership, only a few months. I have a bit of a pest issue and was at the store and saw several products being sold as "Safe for Pets". Thankfully I'm naturally skeptical so decided to do some research rather than take them at their word. Sure enough a quick Google search revealed stories of people's pets having fucking seizures, getting extremely sick, and even dying from these products. For example pic related has lemongrass oil which is just straight up unambiguously toxic to both dogs and cats. These are to my knowledge the most common pets. So what the fuck are they talking about when they say safe for pets? Pet rocks? I started looking and saw this sort of thing being sold all over the place in several different stores.

What the fuck? How are they getting away with such a label? It's outrageous to me thinking I could've been this close to inadvertently killing my pet and I'm sure it's happened a fucking ton. It's just such an evil thing to do, surely the extra profit from saying "Safe for pets" on something that blatantly isn't can't be that huge to justify the horrible negative press you'd expect from this, but they're still in business so I guess they just don't care.

Anyone wanna explain why this is a thing?

There's an insane lack of laws and regulation for pet care unfortunately.

But you'd think they'd at least get some sort of pushback. People love their pets and here is a company just casually killing and horrifically injuring God knows how many by sheer malicious dishonesty. It isn't like they're just selling something harmful, they are actively labeling poison as "Safe for pets". It's just so beyond the pale evil I'm surprised there's not more outrage. I guess there's too many injustices for any one thing to draw much attention these days. What a world.

because "when use as directed" is labelled on there, everything in the world is technically poisonous, as long as youre not retarded, this shouldnt ever be an issue if you read the directions on the bottle and not feed it to your pet

Like what?
I've never had to worry about stuff being safe for my cat or not.

Posting this here since I don't wanna make a new thread. Small ants tend to come inside during the summer months and store bought bait does the trick, and since I saw them a few days ago I put new bait out. I woke up this morning and saw these gargantuan motherfuckers swarming them. Thankfully my cat doesn't go near this particular area so I drenched it in raid for the time being and opened up the window to let it air out. Reckon these are carpenter ants? I've never seen huge ones like this inside before. Some pressure washing was done to the exterior of my house recently so that's probably what got both colonies riled up.

I think the danger comes from pets accidentally ingesting it. Even if it isn't directly fed to them, it might be applied in areas where they'll walk/potentially roll in and lick it off their paws later. What I do is make sure my pets aren't anywhere near the application area, let it sit for a while, then wipe the area down with water later to dilute it. If it needs to sit for a long time then I'll block the area off. Even though I used it for this situation, I really don't like using raid because the smell is so strong - if it's strong for me then it's definitely worse for pets. Diatomaceous earth seems like a good bug killer option depending on what bug exactly is in your house.
