>>5016376 (OP)Velvet spiders of the genus 'Stegodyphus' are social spiders that display remarkable cooperation. These spiders work together building a nest, rearing young, and sharing large prey they take down together. What's remarkable is that these spiders do not seem to infight or have cannibalism among themselves, on top of readily accepting outsiders to the colony even if they are a separate species of Stegodyphus.
One study recorded multiple individuals each taken from different colonies of two different species, and when all placed together in one enclosure, the spiders immediately started to work together. Unlike ants or bees, the jobs of the spiders seem to largely be determined by the personality of the individual spiders. Some are naturally more reclusive and thus focus on building their web, some are more aggressive and will readily take down prey.
