Statistically speaking you're in pretty much no danger at all. Even if it attacked you if you're a fit male it's probable you could fight it off with minimal damage, they don't have a lot of fight in them unless you have it cornered or somehow are bothering its cubs.

I'd have more trouble explaining the firearm discharge while avoiding speaking to the game warden and getting my name plastered all over ARA slacktivist social media

https://www.kuow.org/stories/cougar-attack-washington-state-cyclists ... this poor cougar attacked a group old roasties (mistook them for were some injured elderly deer for easy take downs) on bikes and paid for it with his life.

Given I'm aware of it I'm fine. Not big enough to kill me unless it snuck up on me. And cats are big ambush predators. Once they're seen they aren't very likely to still chase and engage. You just walk backwards slowly and maintain eye contact. And if it attacks go for the eyes and hit it. Cougars aren't so big where anyone but some kind of zoomer or a woman would be at much risk.

If you see them and they aren't cornered you're not in very much danger at all.

I've noticed that every time a puma attacks a human, they tend to bite into the skull rather than the neck.
Is this just the peak hunting technique against monpai or is this just a uniquely new world cat technique? Everyone always said it was unique to jaguars because of their bite force, but literally every human attack you read involves biting at the skull despite our very easily exposed necks.

fucked if she's a female with cubs but I don't think the others would even be interested in a confrontation unless I ran and set off its chase instinct

I've seen mountain lions twice. Once in the middle of a city with 70k people and the other in the outskirts of said town. The first time I was 12 or so and it was in the trees. It simply looked at me and walked of. The next time I was 18 or so and walking down a road at night leading out of town with corn fields on both sides and the fucker was stalking me. I just tried not to panic, made it known I was aware of it, and turned around.

Oh and I have personally seen what one can do to a horse. It ripped its ass up. Couldn't kill it but it had to be put down anyways because the damage was done. Backside was shedded to bits and it couldn't even move without being led to where it was put down. All it could do is stand there wide eyed and shiver. It has seen and felt some shit.

In many human attacks cougars go at them from behind, leaping onto the head and shoulders. For children or crouched adults the skull is the most immediately accessible and controllable target.
For smaller prey ( deer fawns, human children, elderly roasties) the head and neck are similar in size, making the skull an easy grip point.
also, human upright posture and cranial size mean a pouncing cat often lands on or near the head.

Why hasn't anyone crossbred a puma with a lion or tiger? Some pumapards and jaguar hybrids have existed, but it'd be cool to see pumaXtiger or pumaXsnow leopard.

no, its because cats are retarded, when you are on a bicycle, youre about the right size and speed as prey, so theyll attack you. if youre just hiking on foot, theyll leave you alone for the most part

Because that's not possible, ya dingus. Despite their size, cougars/pumas/mountain lions are not "big cats" as in they're not members of panthera.
