If you look at the actual crime stats you might be surprised to find that it's estimated the vast majority of "incidents" go unreported, never discovered whatsoever, and then looking into it further you'll find that out of the ones that are, the vast majority of those do not really result in anything. most investigations close pretty early. and again, out of the ones that go further, the vast majority do not end up getting any conviction and, once more, the vast majority of those who do get convicted do not face time and AGAIN, out of those who do actually get discovered, reported, investigated, sent to trial and sentenced to prison, they do not get these 100+ year sentences, not even 20+, they get some 1-5 years at most. it is actually insane how easy it is to get away with things these days
