As for spoken Japanese I think I just need more listening practice, it's just hard to find good content to listen to that's slow enough to understand.

Even worse, if they won't let me put Japanese subs on at all and only have the automatically translated to English ones. Frustrating!
Luckily most learner content that I've found to be good includes subs in the video in Japanese. But sometimes I'd like to diversify the content I listen to, you know?

Different translations can mean a lot of things from what I understand. Depends on who localizes it mostly.
It would be nice to do that myself. My long term goal is to be a localizer / translator for anime and manga if possible.

Good plan! Meow haz Intel mostly for compatibility and hyper-threading PLUS AMD GPU for display and later got an Intel GPU for AI. Ironically Meow couldn't remember working with AI until they started all over again - Meow was just at the height of sickness when they were doing that stuff initially... but it helped Meow get some jobs including with Bethesda

Meow mostly started with using AI within games for NPCs - brings a lot of life to a game and when it gets complex it's gonna be like what you games should be when you were a kid.. Meow customised a mod which does that for some bethesda game and imported it into another with A LOT creative use of other Bethesda game scripts - The rest is just tl;dr mostly.

You actually can depending on their architecture. Daggerfall for instance you would have to redo a stupid amount due to how they implement their 32 bit structure but say Oblivion onwards it's actually quite easy as you can use the file structure to simply insert it.
But 16 bit or lower Meow would say it's not worth it much for the same reasons you allude to and say - waste of computing power to navigate all those conditions and workarounds clever people had to do for them and diaolgue would merely be the most easy and functional. It's possible but just balloons the filesize astronomically in comparison to doing it from scratch. Doing the same for 8-bit is just novelty if not just stupid because many of that era stuff doesn't actually have text but rather curated display patterns
