Had it worked, he could have sold trips down to the titanic for two, who then could have had romantic sex alone within the Titan, right next to the remains of the ship.

Easy income.

It exists it’s just super thick and very uncomfortable (if not impossible) to use properly. They’ve found ways of improving that though. The human body easily withstand the pressure at 4000 meters. Once we have that tech figured out we can just lower people down on platforms instead of using shitty subs.

If you watched the Netflix special (or was educated on the case originally) I don’t know how you could ask this. The guy was able to reach a height through sheer bullshit that is really impressive. He was warned by multiple people in multiple industries (even Boeing) that he was going to kill somebody. The fucking guy was such a megalomaniac that he took this information and still got on his own sub.

This stupid acoustic warning system of his was actually working and warning him of impending implosion. He STILL went down.

The guy was clearly delusional to the point of severe mental illness and still managed to produce a working submersible and used it to reach a depth that only a handful of machines are capable of doing. He did this while firing and driving off engineers right and left. It’s an absolutely compelling story.

I have yet to see any refutation. Alvin was revolutionary, it had a pressure vessel and capacity for 2 or 3 people to survive for several days at the bottom of the ocean, and everything they needed to navigate there and do science and return to the surface in one self-contained vessel, everything before it was either very rudimentary, couldn't go anywhere close to the bottom of the sea, needed to be tethered to a mothership at all times, or all 3. But 60 years after Alvin, every deep sea vehicle is just Alvin but a little better. They're still all bespoke vehicles built for gorillions of dollars that can fit 2 or 3 people and take them to the bottom of the ocean for a couple days and bring them back after doing some science. Rush was a fucking retard, but he was right that the little club of deep sea submersibles was and still is stagnant, now even more since nobody's gonna try to build cylindrical composite pressure hulls any time soon.

There's nowhere else to go with it. Sure, you can use fancier composites, but all this does is increase the risk due to their inherent lack of uniformity. Making the submersibles bigger just massively increases their weight and cost for the sake of adding an extra person or two.

Rush was a retard who ironically set back the world of DSV by showing that a moron with too much money could still skirt around regulations, ensuring whoever comes after him with a good idea is absolutely priced out of the market because regulatory bodies do not want another rich retard killing himself.

>those waiting for the rescue chopper have to stand in place and endure the literally blistering heat baking them like an oven

>Built in 1960
You're so stupid it hurts.

It was built in 1960, true.
Then it SANK in 1968, it was recovered, and the hull was entirely rebuilt in 1973. It had entirely new electrics for the RMS Titanic voyage, and new crew compartment and viewing for the thermal vents. By 2001, that sub was only the same name and shape, but entirely rebuilt, every part.
It's disassembled and inspected every 3 years. It was overhauled in 2011, 2020, 2022, and 2023.
Fuck you for not even doing basic research.

He did not tell those people how shitty the sub was. He lied to them and everyone else claiming that the sub was 100% safe. One of the victims was a child who only came because his father really wanted him to come.

The only person on that sub that diserved to die that day was the grifter who invented it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of billionaires, but celebrating a person's death solely because they got scammed, would make me a massive hypocrite.
