Dear Zoomers,
Do any of you actually give a shit about "spoilers"?
My generation (millennials) were obnoxiously obsessed with the idea. As if it would actually ruin stories, knowing what happened. It showed how many of us worship fiction like some kind of idol.
Not to mention, spoilers only covered the What of something that happens and not the How, Why or anything else usually. But it turned out they kind of only cared about the What. I became curious and questioned them about this for many years. I cam to the conclusion that most people do not understand How or Why enough to actually describe it or point to it in a story.
Now, I have heard most zoomers are even more illiterate so I am hoping you at least do not share the obsession with avoiding spoilers.

I cant speak for my whole generation, but I personally dont, as I enjoy the path that the spoiler comes from, the Why as you put it,, obviously it ruins the tension that is built, but if I like the work of fiction I dont give a shat.

if a spoiler ruins the entire show, the show is not well-written.

I am zoom

I enjoy a film or book more if I don't already know what is going to happen. When I am watching a tv series from the past I intentionally don't search anything up related to it. I watched Rome a bit ago, also I watched Shogun recently - I wanted to search up some thing related to what happened in an episode/reality of Roman law/perceptions when killing that slave for example but I knew if I searched it I would get a link to some post talking about X character dying or whatever.

There may be a difference generationally because entertainment is much more separated out now with no shows that everyone watches. As a zoomer you can totally not have seen lots of the things your peers have because everyone has their own section of stuff they like, not like everyone having seen Game of Thrones or the Sopranos etc... where people would immediately discuss it at work the next day. Series get released all at once and people consume them at different rates and I can easily avoid spoliers/information on a game/film/book/series that has been out for a year or a decade because I just don't click on stuff related to it.

As a millenial you probably had to be more active about telling everyone to shut up about spoilers because the people you are around had all seen the same thing that was going and wanted to discuss it so were more crazy about it.

>it ruins the tension
Not OP
Thats the point isn't it?
Seems people are thinking of this in way too much of a dichotomy. You >>935937539 as well...

Its not a matter if it ruins rhe whole thing or not, its that it ruins some of the wonder, tension etc.. a show/movie/book what have you can still be good if it was spoiled.
But it can also add an element of extra excitement.
I've had shows spoiled and still watched/enjoyed them, and I won't slash your throat if you ruin something for me. Doesn't mean I wouldn't rather go in blind.

I don't think an abstract idea can be an "idol".

you have a single digit IQ if you don't understand how spoilers can diminish a story. which you clearly don't, since you started this gay thread.

Nothing in modern entertainment is interesting enough for anyone to care if you “spoil” it.

You make some great points, but I *think* spoilers are still valued by people with long memories who CAN work out details and inferences. It's more for them than the others.
Still, you're so correct on so many points. It's very worrisome, but, the world will balance out in the end. One way or another, it will, friend.

I never followed this, I got it, just never cared. Granted the one best spoiler i ever witnessed and enjoyed was some dude telling everone on the west coast that snape kills dumbledore and some kid in line shouting "fuck you bitch" because harry potter was at its peak at the time. But id have just felt pathetic for being in line at 4am waiting to buy the books that where sold 4 hours earlier on another coast.
