The website makes money from you clicking on those ads, they're called CLICK WRAP ads. The vast majority of most social media websites revenue comes from Clickwrap ads. But again, without a mechanism for your click to matter, no one makes money.
If the ad leads to a paid service, and you don't buy anything, there's a chance they don't make any money from the click, because of a concept called "click attribution," more specifically, "last click attribution," which gives ad revenue and credit for a purchase to the last affiliate link clicked by the consumer. That ONLY applies after a purchase is made. If you click off of a webpage opened by an ad, you have effectively made the company 0 dollars, yourself.
Otherwise, your participation is irrelevant. Those companies make money from adspace sales whether you click, or not, and whether you visit, or not, ad blocker on, or off.
