Can someone give me a dummies-friendly rundown of what's going on with this Trump vs. California thing?

Basically, think of it like a tug-of-war. California, with its progressive vibe, wants to protect its people and policies. Trump, with his tough-on-immigration and federal-power approach, wants to show heโ€™s in charge. Itโ€™s not just about California; other Democratic states are watching, and this could shape how states push back against the federal government.

A lot of Trump's election arguments and promises relied on the idea of "state's rights"-- the right of individual states for self-governance and -determination-- and now California's calling his bluff.

Trump promised to deport illegal immigrants. He is using ICE (immigration enforcement) to do so.
California is a "sanctuary state" what this means in practical terms is that it will offer social benefit programs to illegal immigrants, and if arrested for other reasons will not report illegal immigrants to ICE.

ICE has been sent to Cali and other states to remove illegal immigrants from the country. Protests break out in Cali of family/friends/supporters of illegal immigrants, causing mostly peaceful riots and demonstrations against ICE carrying out the law. Due to the riots, Trump mobilizes the national guard. Gavin Newsom, governor of California, says Trump cannot do this, and gets a judge to stop him. A Higher judge overrules and says, yes Trump can control the national guard in this case.

To inject my opinion, there are sad stories of illegal immigrants who have been here 15+ years, have built a life, have become comfortable. It's a little bit their fault, for coming here illegally, and it's a little bit our fault for not deporting them sooner. If my neighbor becomes fond of borrowing my hose, and he does it for 15 years, at some point it's a little bit my fault for not telling him it's my fucking hose. nrv8jWe should probably start telling people it's our fucking hose.

It isn't, white people are also descendants of illegal immigrants. It's Native American land. Although I honestly have no idea what Native Americans think about all this.

>It isn't
What isn't?
>white people are also descendants of illegal immigrants
And how did that work out for the Indians? They were NOT a single sovereign nation with enforced borders, but many small nations at war with each other, constantly changing borders, which made European conquest possible.
>It's Native American land.
No. It was a sliver or Monatiquot land here, Wompanoag land there, etc. And over time it became not.
>Although I honestly have no idea what Native Americans think about all this.
They are all dead. Their modern descendants are just regular American individuals with a unique life story, same as the rest of us.

a huge issue is the lack of due process. people are being arrested by masked guys with no warrants or ID and being taken to detention centers. This includes citizens, tourists, and people on visas, not just illegals

I agree that this is an enormous issue and I don't like what I've been seeing on the topic. But I'm not certain what documentation is required to deport someone who has no authentic documentation? Like who's SSN or License number do you file?
False positives are of course the biggest area of concern, people who are here legitimately but are caught up in zealous enforcement.
I think there is enough motivation to obfuscate on both sides that I'm not sure who to believe on any given case. Have to evaluate on a case by case basis, which will take time

The problem is with how theyre grabbing people. How do they suspect the people theyre grabbing are illegal? Ive seen some crazy videos of what ICE is doing and im frankly disgusted that its happening in my country
That said, if someone is actually here illegally then they need to go. I also dont like that we're not sending them back to their home country
