>>936396572Our knowledge of reality while limited is still the most advanced it has ever been and only continues to grow. Luckily for us, religion is not only the belief in an abstract divine creator. Religious texts make many falsifiable claims about the history of the world and reality in general, and many of them are incompatible with our current understanding of reality.
As science has continued to advance, the gaps in our understanding that have previously been filled by mere speculation, conjecture, and myth are now being filled in with accurate knowledge.
The Earth is not flat, nor is it 6000 years old, nor is it the center of the universe, nor was it formed in 7 days. Life did not develop in the way that Genesis describes, and life is not accurately categorized by the Bible either. There was never a "great flood" which enveloped the entire world.
Theism is far more arrogant than atheism. Because atheism is only finalizing the trend of development in our understanding of reality. The gaps in our knowledge which god had once filled are shrinking, and soon the only gap left will be the creation of the universe.
Which, considering that there is no religion which believes in a completely non-interventionist God who merely started the universe; the only options left are atheism or deism.
Atheism takes this one final gap, the question of how does our universe exist in the first place, and from extrapolating the historical trend of religious and magical explanations of reality being replaced by a scientific explanation we can conclude that there is no need of the divine or the supernatural to explain anything.
At this point the only reason religion continues to exist is because it's the most successful scam in history. Religion as an institution is still powerful and pervasive in society and many con-men profit from its continued existence ripping off billions of people.
